On Monday the Prime Minister announced a cabinet reshuffle which will have some impact on the key IP portfolio, Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (as it is presently known).
The portfolio will expand to become the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education, with ministerial responsibilities shared by:
- Greg Combet MP, as the new Minister for Industry and Innovation (as well as his existing Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Portfolio); and
- Senator Chris Evans, as the new Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research.
As a result of those changes, Senator Kim Carr will become the new Minister for Manufacturing (and Defence Materiel).
Another ministerial change of particular relevance to many in the IP space is Tanya Plibersek MP taking on responsibility for the Health portfolio, with former Health Minister Nicola Roxon MP becoming the new Attorney-General.
