Harper Review recommendation adopted

25 August 2015

The Federal Government has released the terms of reference for a public inquiry by the Productivity Commission into Australia’s IP regime, in response to one of the three IP recommendations in the Harper Review.

The inquiry – which is the first independent holistic review of Australia’s IP regime since 2000 – has been tasked with considering whether current arrangements provide an appropriate balance between access to ideas and products on the one hand, and encouraging innovation, investment and the production of creative works on the other.

A report is due within 12 months, and submissions are open now.

Our colleagues on IP Whiteboard have prepared a detailed post outlining the scope and likely considerations of the inquiry. Read the full post here.
