Melissa Monks has written an interesting article for Agrithinking about the Federal Government’s planned reforms for country of origin labelling in the food industry.
The Federal Government has indicated that it will roll out the new regime by mid-2016, with a transitional period, to “deliver clearer and more consistent country of origin food labels without imposing excessive cost on industry”. The proposed regime will see the continuation of mandatory country of origin labelling for most food offered for retail sale in Australia, but using the familiar green and gold kangaroo symbol with a bar graph.
