ACCC Halts Hospital Merger

Last week the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced that it would oppose Healthscope Limited’s proposed acquisition of the Brunswick Private Hospital from Healthe Care Pty Ltd following a review which took just under six months.

Sharon Henrick and Tina Zhuo have written an article analysing the ACCC’s decision, including its concerns, views on market definition, and a possible alternative route for hospital mergers of authorisation from the Competition Tribunal based on public benefits.
